`Sunday Post' undelivered

Following the many notices and the advertisement in The Jakarta Post, I made an effort on Sunday, Sept. 18, to rub the sleep out of my eyes at 7 a.m. instead of 8 a.m.

I had decided to improve the quality of my Sunday lie- in...wash away the blues, so from 7 a.m. I awaited the arrival of the much needed Sunday edition (being a langganan, subscriber, for eight years now). I romped, I stomped and finally by 9 a.m., hunched my knees up to my chest and kept my fingers crossed.

By 10.30 a.m. my delivery agent informed me that they had not yet received the Sunday papers from the printers. Finally by 11 a.m. I engrossed myself in Ripley's Believe it or not, wondering if the above issue deserved a mention there.

Note: We are sorry to learn that many of our customers did not receive the maiden issue of The Jakarta Post 's Sunday edition. For your information, distribution of printed media (newspapers, tabloids and magazines) is done by Agencies or sub-agencies. They are private firms who buy the newspapers from publishers and sell them either to readers on a retail basis or deliver them to subscribers.

The fact is neither The Jakarta Post nor the agencies have the power to control sub-agencies. Except for official agencies it is impossible for us to expect loyalty on the part of the agencies/sub-agencies to only one publisher because they serve a number of publishers at the same time.

Readers and potential subscribers are best advised to contact the Circulation Department of The Jakarta Post by telephone 260- 1777, or fax 260-1112 or 260-1717 and we will enroll you in our official agencies/sub-agencies in your areas (we have 487 official agencies/sub-agencies throughout the country, about 61 percent of them are in Jakarta). We will take necessary measures against these official agencies/sub-agencies if their services to readers prove to be unsatisfactory. It is to be noted that the monthly subscription fee is Rp 16,000, to be paid in advance.

Concluding, we would like to thank you for your information. It is our sincere intention to always enhance our services to readers in the future.
