Sun eclipse in North Sulawesi
JAKARTA: The National Aeronautic Agency predicted yesterday
that a full eclipse of the sun will occur in Sangihe-Talaud,
North Sulawesi, on Oct. 24 from 1:13 p.m through 1:15 p.m.
An agency official, Agus Nuryanto, said in a hearing with
members of the House of Representatives in charge of research and
technology that the eclipse will not be seen from other
provinces.
SL Manurung, the agency's chief of research and development
department, said that the eclipse will begin in Iran at 7 a.m.,
move eastward and end in southern America.
"During the eclipse, we will conduct research on the effect of
it on the relation between the sun and the earth," Manurung said
as quoted by Antara.
The longest eclipse in Indonesia took place for five minutes
in 1983. (pan)
