Summers, Armin top golf tourney

JAKARTA (JP): Red Summers of the United States and Armin of Indonesia won the overall best gross and best net at the charity golf tournament at Rancamaya Golf and Country Club.

Summers scored 70 points and Armin 62 points in the tournament held at the course near Bogor last Thursday. Both golfers received trophies in the tournament organized by Planet Hollywood restaurant.

"We offered cash to golfers who could score holes in one on any of four holes. Cash prizes ranged from Rp 50 million to Rp 100 million, but nobody made a hole in one," Wiwin Erikawati, the restaurant's spokeswoman, told The Jakarta Post on Monday.

About 150 golfers, both foreign and Indonesian, participated in this year's event. Local celebrities including Bob Tutupoli, Cok Simbara, Farouk Avero and Jimmy Manoppo were among the participants.

Apart from the tournament, the organizer collected Rp 170 million from the golfers through an auction of goods and plane tickets.

The money has been donated to the Communication Forum for the Supervision and Development of Indonesian Children. The foundation helps homeless children and the funds will be used to purchase books, clothing, building materials and to fund the children's schooling. (lnt)
