Sultanate gets two elephants

YOGYAKARTA: The sultanate of Yogyakarta received two elephants from the Way Kambas elephant training center in Lampung.

The elephants were received by Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X at a ceremony on Friday. The male elephant was later named Kyai Ajar and the female Nyai Badra.

The sultan said he had ordered the elephants from Lampung to remind his subjects of the symbolistic nature of such creatures as elephants in Javanese culture.(mds)
