Sultan to confer with journalists

YOGYAKARTA: Newly installed Yogyakarta governor Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X has promised to lead in an open manner and hold routine dialogs with local journalists in order to disseminate his development policies and seek input.

Antara said the traditional monarch made the pledge on Wednesday when he met with representatives of the local branch of the Association of Indonesian Journalists (PWI) at his office.

The journalists visited the Sultan to tell him about their plan to join the PWI congress in Semarang on Oct. 9 to Oct. 11.

The governor also said that through such routine dialogs can he establish mutual relations with the media.

"Please give me a pinch on the ear if later on you find changes in me after I become the governor," he said. "I promise I will always be open to journalists, and ask for your suggestions, because journalists usually know more..."
