Sulawesi, Kalimantan Police chiefs meet
MANADO, North Sulawesi: All provincial police chiefs from Kalimantan and Sulawesi are holding a two-day meeting here, due to end today, to discuss security cooperation.
North Sulawesi Police spokesman Adj. Comr. Wilson Damanik said on Thursday that the meeting was so as to anticipate the possible emergence of violent conflicts in their respective jurisdictions.
They also discussed the impact of the prolonged sectarian conflict in Poso, Central Sulawesi, on neighboring areas.
"During the meeting, we discussed how to prevent such conflicts from spreading to other areas, especially areas where refugees are located," Damanik said.
National Police chief Gen. Da'i Bachtiar is scheduled to close the meeting on Friday.
