Sukun grabs overall title

SEMARANG (JP): The Sukun table tennis club of Kudus, Central
Java, grabbed four of nine individual titles to claim the overall
championship at the sixth Gotong Royong Cup Open Table Tennis
National Tournament at the Youth Building in Ambarawa, some 30
kilometers south of here.

Sukun's four titles were won by Franky in the men's beginner
division, Arista in women's cadet, Johan in men's junior and Nur
Anis in the men's senior division.

Semarang Regent B. Guritno presented the winners with their
trophies and other prizes.

"One hundred players from 10 clubs from Bandung, Banjarnegara,
Jakarta, Kudus, Semarang, Surakarta and Surabaya took part in the
open tournament, which began on Wednesday," the chairman of the
tournament's organizing committee, Soehartono Lenggono, said.

"We expect more athletes from all over Indonesia to take part
next year, especially players from outside Java," he said. (har)
