Subarjo resigns from BI

JAKARTA (JP): Bank Indonesia deputy governor Subarjo Joyosumarto will resign from the central bank as of next month to head a Kuala Lumpur-based training department owned by the central banks of the Southeast Asian nations.

Bank Indonesia senior deputy governor Anwar Nasution said on Monday that Subarjo had submitted his resignation to Bank Indonesia's board of governors.

Subarjo's resignation has come amid escalating clashes between Bank Indonesia Governor Sjahril Sabirin and President Abdurrahman Wahid.

Subarjo is supposed to end his current term in 2001.(rei)
