Students urge law enforcement

SURABAYA: Around 100 students from a number of universities staged a protest on Tuesday to demand the government focus on enforcing the law, particularly in the case involving former president Soeharto.

Waving banners reading "Eradicate New-Styles of Corruption, Collusion and Nepotism", and "Don't Turn Soeharto's Trial into a Play", the protesters said members of the People's Consultative Assembly must remain true to the reform agenda, including enforcing the law, amending the 1945 Constitution and upholding good governance.

The protesters, from the Movement of Students Who Care for Reform, demanded the nation's leaders, particularly those in the House of Representatives and the Assembly, remain alert and keep reform on course. They said the reform agenda had become derailed. (nur/sur)
