Students, teachers go on strike

BANDUNG: Some 650 students and 80 teachers of state-run Senior High School 5 (SMU) in the West Java regency of Cimahi went on strike on Thursday after they were denied access to the school.

The students just sat in the schoolyard while their teachers assembled in the teacher's room, waiting for news from the local education office.

"We have not been able to study since Monday because other students who used to occupy classes in the afternoon took our morning classes," Suhendar, one of the students, said.

The senior high school shares the school building with Junior High School PGRI III, with the latter using it in the afternoons.

It was not immediately known why the junior high school shifted its classes to the mornings. --Antara
