Students take SPMB tests

YOGYAKARTA: Up to 16,171 high school graduates in Yogyakarta, as well as hundreds of thousands of other students nationwide, are sitting the national entrance examinations (SPMB) to gain admission to prestigious state universities. The tests started on Wednesday and will continue on Thursday.

Wednesday sees the students sitting language and quantitative skills tests, while they are due to sit the math and natural sciences (IPA), and social sciences (IPS) tests on Thursday.

Speaking to journalists here on Tuesday, the chairman of the Yogyakarta National University Entrance Examinations Committee, Tony Atyanto Dharoko, said that the number of students sitting this year's national entrance tests in Yogyakarta had dropped sharply from last year, when some 22,500 students sat the tests. -- JP
