Students rally against militarism

PURWOKERTO, Central Java: Some 200 students held a noisy rally at Jendral Soedirman University here Wednesday, protesting what they perceived to be a rise in militarism in the country.

The demonstration's coordinator, Sigit Wiryanto, called for an end to the militarism that has been so prevalent across the country.

"Democracy Yes! Anarchy No!" read one of the posters.

The students left the scene after listening to several speeches. There were no reports of violence. (45)
