Students raid regent's hotel room

JAKARTA: Dozens of students from Papua raided on Tuesday the hotel room of the province's Jayawijaya regent, David Agusti Hubbi, whom they allege is involved in graft.

Yan Metuan, one of the Papuan students, said that David had been under city arrest since March 17, 2005, over his alleged role in the embezzling of some Rp 200 billion from the regency budget.

"We want to apprehend him and bring him to the police. How come a man under city arrest (in Jayawijaya) can be staying here (in Jakarta)," he said, pointing out that David has been staying at the Mercury Hotel in West Jakarta for the past five days.

At around 1:30 p.m., the police came to hotel and took both the regent and the protesting students to the West Jakarta police station. -- detik
