Students hitting more than books

YOGYAKARTA: A recent survey by the Indonesian Planned Parenthood Association (PKBI) in Yogyakarta found that 9 percent of junior high school students in the city were sexually active.

PKBI director Kusminari said there was a good possibility that figure was higher because many of the survey respondents were too embarrassed to tell the truth.

The number of sexually active students was attributed to a more open society characterized by the free flow of information, including on sex. The recent survey involved 187 respondents. -- JP
