Students for, against military in Jambi
JAMBI: A group of students from nine colleges visited the headquarters of the local military command on Wednesday, expressing their support for the Armed Forces (ABRI) dual function but saying that it had exceeded its authority, Antara reported.
"We are for ABRI's dual-function. The problem is that ABRI has intervened too deeply in social affairs," Sigit, a member of the group, said in an oration during the protest.
Col. Soepriadi, the command's chief, welcomed the students and invited them for coffee and a chat.
He proposed a regional dialog, which will also involve students, to discuss Jambi's problems. (emb)
