Students demand newspaper shutdown
MEDAN, North Sumatra: Hundreds of students at Medan State University (UNIMED) staged a protest on Wednesday in front of the office building of Pos Metro daily, demanding it be closed.
The demand was made by the students after the daily ran several stories that, the students claimed, had tarnished the image of the university, including an allegation that a UNIMED lecturer harassed 10 female students.
Spokesman of the UNIMED Student Senate Budi said that the stories were unsubstantiated and that the daily had to be shut down; at the same time, the management of the daily said that it was looking into the students' allegations. -- JP
