Students brawl over basketball

JAKARTA (JP): Hundreds of students from two universities
brawled Friday night, interrupting a basketball game at the
Sumantri Brodjonegoro student stadium on Jl. Rasuna Said in
Kuningan, South Jakarta. The game was between the private
Trisakti university and the University of Indonesia.

A South Jakarta Police precinct sergeant said the brawl ended
a few minutes after police arrived.

Witnesses said students damaged several cars in the stadium's
parking lot.

The match was postponed with the University of Indonesia team
leading 17 to 12, the Republika daily reported.

Friday's match was a semifinal in the city's student basket
ball league. (jun)
