Students arrested for drug dealing

PURWOKERTO, Central Java: The Purwokerto police seized five university students for dealing drugs at their dormitory on Thursday.

Five bags of marijuana were confiscated during the raid, and police discovered that Heri, 22, a student from Kutasari, Baturaden district, was the owner of the cannabis.

Heri admitted he had bought the drugs from an unknown man for Rp 60,000, which he then sold at Rp 80,000 per bag, while the other four students claimed they had obtained the drug from Heri.

Local police said on Friday that the students were not only using drugs, but were also selling them to fellow students and at entertainment centers. Police did not disclose the name of the university to which the students belonged.

Adj. Sr. Comr. Winarno said that the drug trafficking ring operating in the Banyumas area was hard to uncover "because most of its networks are controlled from Jakarta, and the information trail is usually cut off as we try to further our investigation." -- JP
