Students' action

Nowadays, especially in Jakarta, violence can occur in any place at any time. It is, most of the time, teenagers who create violence. Fights between high school students from different high schools seem so familiar to us.

On Oct. 19, 1995, I was on a bus, number P 41, heading for downtown Kota. I was sitting in the right-hand row next to the window. When the bus reached Manggarai, not far from Pasaraya, there was, suddenly, a bunch of senior high school students pointing at the bus. They began throwing stones at us. One of the stones thrown was quite large and hit the window beside me. I was quite alarmed by this. Fortunately the glass was thick enough not to break. Another stone broke the window behind me and pieces of the glass injured the woman passenger sitting there.

Don't the students have something meaningful to do, rather than just hanging around the streets creating disturbances? These students belong to the younger generation on whom the future of this country is depending. Parents should pay greater attention to their youngsters, as good basic education can only be given in the family.
