Student trampled to death

JAKARTA (JP): A high school student, Supriyadi, 16, was
trampled to death by other students on Jl. Pemuda, East Jakarta,
late Saturday.

A witness said Supriyadi was the victim of a student brawl
which occurred around 4 p.m. He was trampled in front of the
Wisma Arion building.

Three other students were injured, the Kompas daily reported
yesterday. They were Ahmad Sofyan, 16, Nunu Jahardi Nur, 16, and
Agung Barlian Butar-butar, 16.

The brawl started when several SMA Bariawan students
encountered students from STM 12 PGRI, a technical high school.
Both state schools are in East Jakarta. The students mocked each
other before throwing stones.

The outnumbered SMA Bariawan students ran away. They jumped on
a bus, but Supriyadi fell.

The pursuing STM students trampled Supriyadi.

Supriyadi and the injured students were taken to the nearby
Persahabatan hospital. Supriyadi did not survive. (05)
