Student stabbed in the rear
JAKARTA (JP): An 18-year-old student of a technical high school in Mangga Besar, West Jakarta, was stabbed in the backside with a sickle in a student brawl at the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle in Central Jakarta yesterday afternoon.
The STM 13 student, identified as Sigit Warsono, was rushed by an officer of Menteng Police subprecinct to the intensive care unit of Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital with the sickle protruding from his backside.
A preliminary medical examination showed that the sickle was stuck in his tailbone and surgery was the only way to remove it.
The police officer, who refused to be named, said the incident happened after the bus on which Sigit was riding on his way home from school was attacked by a group from another technical high school.
Students from STM Kampung Jawa in Salemba, Central Jakarta, blocked the bus' path and boarded it, forcing passengers to disembark and flee, he said.
"Sigit also tried to run away. Because the doorway was full, he tried to get out of the bus through a window," he said.
As soon as he was out the window, several students grabbed him by the feet, stabbed him and ran away.
The police are still investigating the incident, he said. (ivy)
