Student sold to pimp

MEDAN, North Sumatra: Two girls, aged 21 and 16, will soon stand trial on charges of selling a 16-year-old junior high school student last year to a man in Belawan, 30 kilometers from here.

Prosecutor Dahlia Mahmud said the defendants had fooled the victim by promising her a job in a plush restaurant where she would earn Rp 20,000 (US$8.50) a day.

Instead of finding her a job as promised, the suspects sold the victim to a pimp in the Sicanang red-light district for Rp 60,000, Antara reported.

The prosecutor said the girl managed to flee the brothel after she was forced to entertain customers for several weeks. (pan)
