Student rapes housemaid

JAKARTA (JP): A senior high school student was mobbed by local residents after he raped a maid in a house on Jl. Taman Radio Dalam in Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta yesterday.

Kebayoran Baru Police Detective Chief Sec. Lt. R. Hendrawan said Thomas Jefri Sani, 18, threatened Wiyanti with a knife and raped her in a bedroom in the house at about 2 p.m.

"After raping the maid, Thomas tried to find money in a drawer. When he was looking for the money, Wiyanti escaped and asked for help," Hendrawan said.

He said Thomas was mobbed by dozens of residents before police arrived to arrest him.

Thomas and his classmate, Agus, who were on school vacation, came to the house which belonged to Agus' uncle on Thursday when he first met the maid, Hendrawan said.

He said Thomas and Agus were second-grade students of Pendowo senior high school in Magelang, Central Java.

On the next day, Thomas whose parents lived in Ciledug, Tangerang, picked up Agus to accompany him to see around the city, he said.

Thomas left Agus, of Yogyakarta, in his house in Ciledug at about 1 p.m., telling him he would withdraw some money in a bank.

Hendrawan said instead of going to the bank, Thomas went to the house on Jl. Radio Dalam.

The suspect met Wiyanti and told her that he would take his wallet, which was left in a bedroom in the morning, he said.

The suspect suddenly put a knife and pointed to Wiyanti when they passed the kitchen, he said.

Thomas told the police that he also tried to steal money from the house because he owed Rp 160,000 from another friend in Magelang. (jun)
