Student missing in Cisadane river

TANGERANG: One of three students of Selapajang PGRI secondary high school went missing in the Cisadane river on Monday afternoon. The boat capsized near the Pasar Baru Dam sluice.

A team from the Tangerang police headquarters, as of Tuesday afternoon were still looking for the missing student.

According to the Tangerang police rapid unit chief, Second Insp. Hardi, the three students -- Helmi Arseto, 13, Jamal, 13, and Agus, 13, were studying in their classroom and left around 3 p.m. on Monday afternoon, because their teacher was absent.

They then went to play by the river bank, and they saw an abandoned boat, so they got inside and tried to row the boat down stream to the Pasar Baru Dam sluice.

They were unable to control the boat, as they were in the middle of the river and the boat turned upside down.

Jamal and Agus managed to hold onto the upside-down boat, but Helmi was unable to hang on and was taken down stream.

Helmi's father, Ismiarsa who is 44-years old, lives on Jl. Mesjid Al Muhajirin in Pasar Baru subdistrict, could not comment at all as he was still distressed.--JP
