Student killed after brawl

An 18-year-old student of (STM) VI technical school killed a student from the neighboring STM IV, following a free-for-all brawl involving dozens of students from both groups on Jl. K.H. Mas Mansyur, Central Jakarta yesterday.

Witnesses said that the victim, Tri Wahyudi, also 18, was stabbed in the chest and back with a knife by the alleged murderer, identified as RI.

Wahyudi initially was trying to break up the brawl when RI became furious and vented his anger at Wahyudi.

After stabbing and leaving the bleeding victim for dead, RI ran away and threw his knife in a nearby sewer, police said.

Police added that they detained the suspect after several residents overpowered him and took him to the Tanah Abang police sub-precinct.

Witnesses said that a number of people had tried to bring Wahyudi to a hospital, but he died on the way because of heavy bleeding. (09)
