Student convicted of murder after brawl

TANGERANG: The Tangerang District court sentenced on Thursday
a high school student to three years in prison for his part in
the killing of a student from a rival high school.

Defendant Willy Probo Caksono of the Korpri vocational high
school in Cikokol, along with his classmates Haris and Koko, beat
and stabbed Haryanto, a student at Yapuntex High School 3,
according to presiding judge Satria US Gumay.

Students from the two schools were involved in a brawl after a
group of Yapuntex students, which included Haryanto, hurled
objects from a passing truck against Korpri students who were
standing in front of their school in Tangerang on June 26.

Willy and his friends spontaneously chased the truck, which
was finally forced to stop at a gas station near the school.

Willy then beat Haryanto to death, after the victim was
stabbed by Haris. The victim was stabbed again by Koko, and died
two hours after he was rushed to hospital.

"If the defendant did not beat Haryanto, the victim might
still have had a chance to survive," prosecutor Puji Rahardjo
