Student busted for drug possession

YOGYAKARTA: Police here arrested on Thursday a student and his
friend for possession of 30 kilograms of dried marijuana and
alleged links to a drug syndicate.

Chief of police detectives Comr. Richard M. Nainggolan
identified the suspects as Fauzi, 26, who claimed to be a student
of a private university here, and Sofian, 32.

According to Nainggolan, the seizure came after the arrest of
Sofian on Wednesday at 8 p.m. as he headed for his dormitory at
Wates, Kulonprogo, west of here.

"He (Sofian) has been under observation by the police for the
last two months," said Nainggolan. The police found a roll of
marijuana beneath the seat of his motorcycle.

"But when we searched his lodgings, we found another 500 grams
of dried marijuana. We therefore questioned him about where he
had obtained it," he said.

Sofian then led the police to Fauzi, in whose possession the
police found 30 boxes, each containing a kilogram of dried
marijuana. -- JP
