Student brawl injures passers-by

JAKARTA (JP): At least five passers-by were injured yesterday when about 100 students from two senior technical high schools brawled in front of a shopping center on Jl. KH. Hasyim Ashari, in Central Jakarta.

The students threw stones smashing the windshields of four Kijang vans and a public bus, Sgt. Suwarsono of the Central Jakarta Police precinct said.

"We can't catch the students because they have already run away," Suwarsono said.

He said the students were from a technical senior high school on Jl. Budi Utomo, Central Jakarta and a technical senior high school in downtown Kota, West Jakarta.

The five passers-by suffered head and hand injuries.

In September, three students were killed in separate student brawls in the city. Police arrested three students involved in one of the killings. The other two killings remain unsolved.

At least 15 students have died in brawls this year. (jun)
