Student arrested for theft

JAKARTA (JP): A high school student has been arrested for his alleged involvement in the theft of an ojek (motorcycle taxi) in Ciputat, South Jakarta.

City Police spokesman Lt. Col. E. Aritonang said yesterday that the suspect, Danan Widianto Putra, 18, was arrested Tuesday night with the stolen ojek. His alleged accomplice has not been found.

"Police detained him for further questioning," Aritonang said. "It is still not clear why he stole the motorcycle."

"There is another student, who Danan admitted was his classmate, who was also involved in the theft. He is still at large."

Danan, a second year student, and his friend allegedly took an ojek from Pasar Ciputat and asked the driver, Triyono, 35, to bring them to Pondok Cabe and return to Pasar Ciputat again.

The two hit Triyono on the head with a piece of wood and stole the motorbike as they headed back to Pasar Ciputat.

Aritonang said that Triyono reported the case to the police when he regained consciousness and Danan was caught not far from the crime scene.

"Danan was lost and entered a dead end road where he was caught." (cst)
