STT seeks new subscribers
Singapore Technologies Telemedia (STT) was established in 1994. It is a unit of Singapore Technologies Group (ST). The latter is 100 percent owned by Temasek Holdings, which is owned by the Singapore government.
STT has three main lines of businesses: data and voice, broadband and multimedia, and electronic services (e-services).
Through some subsidiaries and business alliances, it provides various services such as fixed and mobile telecom services, wireless data communications services, Internet mobile services, managed hosting services, satellite services and enhanced broadband and multimedia services.
The Indosat deal is STT's biggest single investment to date.
STT together with Hongkong's Hutchison Whampoa Ltd. in August bought a controlling stake in bankrupt U.S. telecommunications company Global Crossing Ltd. for US$250 million.
Singapore Technologies (ST) turnover for 2001 was about US$5 billion and the group employs 54,000 employees worldwide. -- JP
