Street vendors relocated

JAKARTA (JP): At least 70 street vendors currently operating along Jl. Bulevar Raya and Jl. Mandiri in Kelapa Gading residential complex in North Jakarta will be relocated soon, a city official said on Thursday.

The city social disturbance control office chief, Raya Siahaan, said the vendors and housing complex developer PT Summarecon Agung had agreed on the relocation.

Raya said the developers would provide permanent kiosks along Jl. Bulevar Utara.

The vendors earlier refused to be removed from the main street, saying that many of them had operated in the area for years.

During a meeting at City Hall on Thursday between seven representatives of the vendors and executives of PT Summarecon, the vendors finally agreed to be relocated to the new site. (jun)
