Street singer hurt by small blast

YOGYAKARTA, Central Java: A beggar on Thursday sustained minor injuries when a tennis ball-sized object he found exploded after he threw it away.

The police suspected the object to be firecrackers but were still investigating the incident.

Thirty-six-year-old beggar Abdul Azis found the object at his usual resting place inside the ruins of the long-demolished Purnama Hotel.

Yogyakarta Chief of Detective Richad Nainggolan said Abdul was looking for his money which he kept in a pipe at his resting place. Instead, he found a plastic bag containing two balls. They exploded after he threw the bag away thinking its contents were useless. -- Antara
