Street accidents on the rise in Batam

BATAM, Riau Islands: The rate of street accidents here has reached an alarming level, with 69 people killed between January and September of this year.

The figure is much higher than last year's, when 56 people were killed in street accidents from January to December.

The high rate of street accident is caused by, among other things, the delinquent attitude of residents, said Barelang Police chief Sr. Comr. Andayono, who oversees Batam city, on Tuesday. -- JP
