Storm demolishes dozens of houses

SEMARANG, Central Java: Heavy rain and strong winds knocked down dozens of houses in Demak and Blora regencies on Thursday and damaged hundreds others. No fatalities were reported.

The storm demolished 20 houses in Tamansari, Ngemplak, Kembangarum and Tegalarum villages, damaged 200 houses and five Madrasah Islamic schools in Demak, while in Blora regency 25 houses in eight villages in Kunduran district were demolished and 160 others were damaged by the storm.

Regency administrations in both areas started surveying the houses and promised to help residents to rebuild.

On Friday, residents were seen cleaning up the debris and repairing their damaged houses. (har/lup)
