Storm damages 200 homes, school

BOGOR: More than 200 houses in Cijeruk district, Bogor, were damaged in a strong wind that hit the municipality on Monday afternoon.

No fatalities were reported as of Tuesday, while hundreds of residents were taking refuge at their relatives' homes still in the area.

The damaged houses are located in Kampung Geger Bitung, Kampung Pasir Pogor, Kampung Pandangiyang, Kampung Nagrak and Kampung Lengis. In addition to 40 houses hit by the storm in Kampung Bojong Kopi, one school building was badly damaged.

Cijeruk district head Ade Yana Mulyana said the storm lifted off the roofs of the houses, uprooted trees and also electricity poles, which fell on the houses.

The Indonesian Red Cross and the administration's Natural Disaster Mitigation task force have distributed food aid to the refugees. -- JP
