Stop Unas' conflict

From Media Indonesia

For more than a year, an internal conflict has rocked the National University (Unas), Jakarta. On Jan. 27, the Jakarta Court office decided that Oesman Rachman's (OR) party had to leave Unas and surrender the university's assets to Sutan Takdir Alisjahbana (STA).

The two parties may not benefit from the conflict, but 160 staff and lecturers have to suffer. Without any explanation, the party of Oesman Rachman has forbidden us (the staff and lecturers) to work or give lectures since July 1993. This means that we do not get any salary.

Indeed for the first three months, Sutan Takdir Alisjahbana paid our salary from his private funds, but certainly this cannot go on because we are Unas employees. So we have had to sell all of our belongings to survive and our children have had to stop their studies.

Don't they know that their personal conflict creates extensive consequences for many people. Why don't they stop quarreling so the Unas students can resume their studies, and so that the lecturers and the staff can resume their work as usual.

We beg that the authorities, such as the Ministry of Education and Culture, Ministry of Manpower, House of Representatives and The National Commission on Human Rights, will work together to resolve this problem.
