Stop the violence
Stop the violence
From Republika
The people of Indonesia are increasingly saddened to see the
problems that have beset their country. The mass media report
daily on the nation's disintegration, conflicts among the
political elite, pornography, drugs and murders.
Some time ago, a grandmother was murdered by her grandchild
because she had warned the latter about the dangers of casual
sex.
How much longer will the nation's children use violence as a
shortcut to solve their problems? Should conscience and logic be
discarded because some problems cannot be resolved quickly? Of
course they must not.
Therefore, we call on distinguished figures, elderly clerics,
leaders and all components of the nation to say "No" to violence.
It is appropriate to have different aspirations but there should
be no violence.
