Stolen mobile phone

I would like to share my experience with readers and remind them not to leave valuable belongings such as mobile phones, purses or bags unattended while dining in a hotel cafe or anywhere else.

When dining at the Gran Via Cafe-Gran Melia Hotel on May 24, my mobile phone was stolen. I had left it on the table while I was away for about 10-15 minutes helping myself to the buffet.

I told the waiter about the theft, and appreciated the security guard and the expatriate chef for listening attentively to my complaint. They apologized for the incident which happened for the first time in their hotel and regretted that the hotel management could not stop the theft as it happened in a public place. I was disappointed with their response because the cafe is situated inside the Gran Melia Hotel which I assumed was under the responsibility of the hotel management. The chef promised to report the incident to the hotel management and would give me a call on May 26. Two months have passed but I have not yet received a phone call from the hotel.
