State-owned companies reshuffled
JAKARTA (JP): The government has revamped the top management of 10 state-owned companies overseen by the Ministry of Industry.
When installing the new presidents of the 10 state-run companies at his office yesterday, Minister of Industry Tunky Ariwibowo said the revamping was part of the government's efforts to prepare state companies to entering regional, as well as global competition.
He targeted that, by the end of the terms for the current cabinet ministers, in early 1998, the 10 state companies should get quality assurance certificates of ISO-9000.
"If you have the ISO-9000 certificates, it will be easier for you to compete on the global market because you already have an international platform to do so," Tunky told the new presidents.
The newly installed executives are Syaiful Amir, who was appointed president of PT Pupuk Kalimantan Timur, replacing Suratman; Rauf Purnama was appointed president of PT Petrokimia Gresik, replacing Endarto; and Omay K. Wiraatmadja was appointed president of PT Pupuk Iskandar Muda, replacing Zini Muhibat.
Ikhdan Nizar was appointed president of PT Semen Baturaja, replacing Suharto Dironimpuno; and Abubakar was appointed president of PT Semen Padang, replacing Nizar D.T. Kayo, who was appointed president of PT Semen Tonasa, replacing Soebyakto.
Minister Tunky also installed Akmal Wahid as president of PT Dok & Perkapalan Kodja Bahari, replacing Irawan Satjadipura; Mas Ismoedi was appointed president of PT Industri Sandang I, replacing Sumedi Wignyosumarto; Imam Hidayat was appointed president of PT Garam, replacing Muchji Rusnosuprapto; and Djoko Satmoko was appointed president of PT Iglas, replacing Soediono Purwodiharjo.
"It's more difficult to become the head of a state company than a private one because state companies bear double missions -- one is to take in as much profit possible and the other is to help the government stabilize the economy," Tunky reminded the new executives. (rid)
