State firms satiesfied with KONI's report

JAKARTA (JP): The National Sports Council (KONI) secretary general Rudolf S. Warouw said on Tuesday that treasurer of state enterprises Qoyum A. Tjandranegara had no objections to KONI's audited financial reports on its budget to send athletes to the 1999 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Brunei Darussalam.

"After receiving an explanation from us, Pak Qoyum accepted the explanation and said there was no problem at all. He also said he would disburse the money promised to KONI, but I didn't ask the figure," he said.

Qoyum, who is director of state-owned company PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN), said last week that state enterprises had yet to hand over donations to KONI because he had questioned KONI's financial audit report on the 1999 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.

The audited reports were claimed to be "incomplete" and had to be returned to KONI for improvement.

But Warouw said the state enterprises were happy with the explanation.

Former state minister for the empowerment of state enterprises Tanri Abeng promised last year to donate Rp 7 billion (US$946,000) to KONI but state enterprises could only raise Rp 6 billion.

State enterprises have handed already over Rp 3.5 billion and the rest will be given to the sports council as soon as it completes the report.

Warouw said KONI would not rush state enterprises to disburse the money.

"We have a memorandum of understanding and I think we don't have to hurry anything. The remaining money, I'm not sure about the figure, will be very helpful for our long-term training program," he said. (yan)
