Startled horse kills young boy

BOGOR: Nine-year-old Helmi Mulyawan died on Saturday morning after he being kicked by a horse during a horse show in South Bogor district.

Witnesses said that the horse kicked Helmi on the chest.

The horse, which was owned by one Jumri, was usually used for taking children on rides around residential complexes.

On the morning of the incident, the horse was resting at the edge of Empang field, where the show was taking place.

"The boy approached the horse and patted the horse's back. Apparently this startled the horse so that it reared up, and then kicked the boy with its hind led," said Yudi, a nephew of Jumri.

The boy passed out and later died on the way to the hospital. --JP
