Star Mild aiming for drag race win

JAKARTA (JP): The Star Mild team hopes to win the seventh leg of the national drag race to be held at Sleman, Yogyakarta, tomorrow.

The team of Canadian Robert Paul and Indonesian Ronny Hermawan said in Yogyakarta Thursday that the seventh leg will be tough for them as their rivals are also aiming for victories.

"Even though my position is secure with 99 points, my rivals like Donnie Pangemanan and teammate Ronny Hermawan cannot be taken lightly," Paul said.

Paul, a consultant at a private firm in Jakarta, will once again drive his BMW M3. Paul's teammate Ronnie will drive a Ford RS200.

Paul, who arrived in Yogyakarta Thursday, said the Sleman circuit was suitable for his car.

Ronny, who is in third in the overall rankings with 54 points, said he would do his best in the race.

"The race in Sleman is very important for me especially for improving my points. I will try my best to remain in second place behind Paul," Ronny said.

Donnie, a Yogyakarta resident, showed his ambition to win the race by saying "Let us not talk much, the most important thing is that I have to win the race in Sleman."

The Sleman race will be followed by the eighth and final leg at Sentul, near Bogor in December. (lnt)
