'Star' beams down Idol Night

StarWorld and Indovision hosted Idol Night as part of a loyalty program for their Indonesian subscribers and to bring StarWorld's SMS-interactive Asia Votes program directly to the capital. About 100 cable TV subscribers and winners of an Idol Night quiz run in select Indonesian newspapers, including The Jakarta Post, attended the event on April 20, which was also open to the dining public. The evening included an Idol-esque singing competition -- complete with a pre-event screening for the five finalists. Jurors Iris Fung of Star Group, Yoris Sebastian of Hard Rock Cafe, Rondang Silalahi and Posma Tobing of Indovision, along with former Indonesian Idol Lucky Octavian, voted Tajudding Ismail the Idol Night winner with his be-bopping rendition of La Bamba -- and he took home the grand prize, an iPod Shuffle. Lucky, however, proved what it takes to reign an Idol with his resonant performance of I Write the Song and his favorite, Copacabana. Hard Rock Cafe Jakarta provided the venue, "because it's all about music", said Fung.
