Stand-in legislators installed

JAKARTA: Five replacements for Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI Perjuangan) legislators who were recruited to the Cabinet and other state institutions were sworn in on Wednesday.

House Deputy Speaker Soetardjo Soerjogoeritno, on behalf of detained Speaker Akbar Tandjung, installed Kamang Rumambi of North Sulawesi, Sutanto Pranoto of Central Java, Hobbes Sinaga of Jakarta, Sterra Pietrz of West Java and Ni Luh Maryani Tirtasari to replace Theo F. Toemion, the chairman of the Investment Coordinating Board, Widjanarko Puspojo, the head of the State Logistics Agency, Kwik Kian Gie, the State Minister/Chairman of the National Development Planning Board, Laksamana Sukardi, the State Minister for State Enterprises, and Jacob Nuwa Wea, the Minister of Manpower and Transmigration, respectively.

In his speech, Soetardjo reminded the new legislators of the growing public expectation for the House to improve its legislative, oversight and budgetary functions. -- JP
