Stamp design contest awards
JAKARTA (JP): Minister of Tourism, Post and Telecommunications Joop Ave yesterday awarded prizes to the 10 winners of the national stamp design contest in connection with Indonesia's golden anniversary.
The first three winners, whose works (shown in pictures on the right, with the first winner at the top followed by the second and third) are likely to be used for the commemorative stamps to mark the 50th independence day which falls on Aug. 17 next year.
The contest, focusing on "Indonesia anticipates the 21st century" was opened to the public between June 1 and July 31.
The contest organizers received a total of 2,677 entries from 2,294 participants.
The winners were selected by an eight-person jury led by Maj. Gen. Sjaukat Banjaransari.
The first three winners picked by the jury were the works of Yus Rusnaedi Arwadinata from Bandung, Mulyadi from Jakarta and Sukiran from Semarang, Central Java.
The eight-member jury which comprised professionals from the Ministry of Tourism, Post and Telecommunications, Directorate General of Post and Telecommunications, Bandung Institute Technology, the state-run printing firm Perum Peruri and journalists also selected seven other winners.
The first winner, Yus Rusnaedi who won Rp 4 million and a trophy, illustrated in his design a child carrying the national red-and-white flag. The other two designs live up to the 21st century theme of the contest. The second winner had a picture of the Palapa satellite and the third of a jet-era Jakarta. (icn)
