Sprint rally grand final

JAKARTA (JP): Defending champion Roy Nirwan will head a field of 83 drivers at the national sprint car rally grand final at the Bumi Serpong Damai circuit in Tangerang, West Java on Sunday.

Roy and his co-driver Harry Z, in a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, are expected to face strong opposition from young contenders including Rifat Sungkar, Febril Suhud, Akbar Hadianto and Raymond Pribadi in the race which offers Rp 11 million (US$4,720) in cash prizes.

The organizers will limit the race to 100 cars, which will tackle two six-kilometer stages.

Bumi Serpong Damai has hosted the sprint rally 25 times. The rally is expected to give youngsters a chance to beat the country's best drivers. (amd)
