Sports bodies gear up training program

JAKARTA (JP): The Indonesian Cycling Federation (ISSI) will send its key cyclists for the national training centers in preparation for the 20th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Brunei Darussalam in August.

ISSI deputy secretary general Sofyan Ruziat said on Thursday that the federation had listed 10 cyclists for the road race and 12 (four women and eight men) in the cross country.

He said that the coaches would evaluate their cyclists' performances during training to decide 17 cyclists for Brunei. He said that the cross country cyclists would undergo a tryout in Australia next June.

Meanwhile, the Indonesian Basketball Association (Perbasi) eliminated four players from the 19 who were to join the national training program.

Perbasi's physical coach Oktavianus Matakupan identified the four players as Narko, Rommy T.P., Bisih and Eko. He said that the players were dismissed for the training following their poor performances in the recent simulation.

He said that the players would take part in a tryout in Beijing early June and would compete against the Kobatama professional basketball team in Bandung, West Java. (ivy)
