S'pore diplomatic car in hit-and-run

JAKARTA: A Singaporean diplomatic car was reportedly involved in a hit-and-run traffic accident on Jl. Diponegoro, Central Jakarta on Tuesday afternoon.

The black Singaporean diplomatic car bearing the license number CD-67-02 which denotes that it is the car of the second highest diplomat in the mission, was apparently involved, as reported by www.detik.com online news provider.

The accident took place at the intersection of Jl. Diponegoro with Jl. Untung Surapati and Jl. Madiun where the car allegedly fled the scene after hitting a man named Usup who was riding a motorcycle.

"The car turned onto Jl. Madiun after hitting Usup although a Military Police officer tried to stop the car," an eyewitness was quoted as saying by www.detik.com.

Telephone calls to the Singaporean embassy were answered by a pre-recorded voice message and first secretary William Tan was unavailable for comment. -- JP
