'Spiderman' to hit New York

LOS ANGELES: Tobey Maguire, leaping into action films this summer with Spider-Man, says it's the right time for a superhero film set in New York, a city of real-life heroes.

"I think people will be ready this summer to watch a good guy in New York who has fun and goes around and beats up the bad guys. Do superheroes still fit in? Yeah, I think so," he said.

The World Trade Center featured prominently in a trailer that was pulled after Sept. 11. But the towers remain in the skyline of Spider-Man's New York.

Maguire, who has starred in Cider House Rules and Wonder Boys, said Spider-Man's conflict with the Green Goblin, played by Willem Dafoe, blurs the line between good and evil.

"The Green Goblin is still considered the bad guy, the evil guy, but there are redeeming qualities about him and things that you want to care about him for," Maguire said.--AP
