Spelling mistakes
I regularly read your newspaper. Of late I find there are a few spelling mistakes appearing in the news articles as well as certain news items which are not correct.
I would like to bring a few of them to your kind attention.
In the Dec. 5, 1997 edition of The Jakarta Post, page 14, under the headline W. Cup goalkeepers face new threat, the word "Tricolor" has been spelt as "Tricolore" in four places. Also in the same news item it is mentioned that Adidas aims to sell three million "copies" of the official tricolor balls. Instead of the word "copies" of balls, it would be appropriate to mention either as three million number of balls or three million balls.
In the same page, under news article Symcox lifts South Africa to emphatic one day win, the sub-heading mentions India wins. But the news covers the details of the second days play, when India scored 512 runs in the first innings and in reply Sri Lanka scored 66 for one in 15 overs, with still three days play remaining for any result to be known in five-day test Cricket.
In the same way, a few months back another news item appeared in the sports column with a photograph of Saurav Ganguly performing a straight drive on a raising ball, but what was printed was that Robin Singh was executing a pull shot dispatching the ball to square leg fence, which is not correct. I hope the authorities concerned would take corrective steps to avoid such shortcomings in future.
